This CD provides a detailed, street-tested approach to working as an incident safety officer, which first provides a solid foundation of key topic information as well as a guide to developing an effective fire department safety incident officer program. This DVD also presents an action model that will help incident safety officers make a difference at the incident scene. Sample checklists and standard operating procedures are also included.
Standards addressing NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer, that identifies the performance requirements necessary to perform the duties of a safety officer and also covers the applicable performance requirements of NFPA 1500, Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program, and NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.
This CD is intended to assist the company officers who are assigned the duties and responsibilities of a fire department safety officer.
It helps the safety officer become more aware of safety issues and regulatory guidelines in the everyday management of the fire department's safety and health program. Some of these duties include preventing or reducing incidents involving fatalities, injuries, exposures and enhancing the overall wellness of firefighters.
Safety Officer provides direction to the incident safety officer functioning within the incident management system, identifying and preventing unsafe acts, and correcting unsafe conditions at an emergency scene.
This CD addresses the 1997 edition of NFPA 1521, "Standards for Fire Department Safety Officer". NFPA 1521 contains the suggested qualifications, roles, and responsibilities of the safety officer. The CD also addresses NFPA 1500, Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program, as it pertains to the duties and responsibilities of a fire department safety officer in establishing a safety and health program and in performing the duties as an incident safety officer.
NOTE: NFPA was considering eliminating the NFPA 1521 standard. The plan included dividing the information in NFPA 1521 between NFPA 1500 and NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.
