Ramsond Group is an American company, headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. In the last few years, Ramsond has quickly become a recognized, reliable and reputable source for a variety of industrial and consumer based products. Ramsond’s expanding product portfolio now includes both industrial and consumer based power generation (thermal, combustion and alternative power generation), appliances (refrigeration and air conditioning), water treatment and industrial and construction tools and machinery. Ramsond’s rapid growth of its product portfolio and its continued success are undoubtedly the result of its uncompromising focus on quality and after-sale service.
DC INVERTER TECHNOLOGY (TRI-FUNCTION)
Ramsond introduces its newly redesigned inverter series CT416D. It is an exciting new innovation that combines a 40 Amp air plasma cutter, a 160 Amp TIG welder and a 150 Amp MMA (ARC) Welder into a handsome, rugged, compact and light package.
The CT416D Inverter rectifies the mains voltage (110V or 220V) into DC (Direct Current), which is then fed into either a series of MOSFETs (Metal – Oxide – Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor). These MOSFETs (transistors) are switched at thousands of Hertz, which greatly reduces the magnetic flux, and therefore the size of the transformer. Hence, the use of MOSFETs allows for a compact, light weight and far more efficient machine such as CT416D to operate at it performance parameters.
TRADEMARK ISSUES & QUALITY COMPONENTS
Although Ramsond can protect the use of its legally Registered Trademarked name, it cannot trademark the word “CT” or the number “416” or the letter “D.” Therefore, other suppliers have similar appearing plasma cutters under the name “CT” and/or “416D.” But, it is crucial to note that they are not produced by Ramsond. There are critical differences in plasma cutters/welder that should be considered. Most importantly, the critical components used in an INVERTER plasma cutter/welder determine the performance and durability of the machine. By way of example, MOSFETs, the heart of a plasma cutter/welder, are the most critical (and most expensive) component of a plasma cutter. They are the mechanism by which the necessary cutting power is produced.
A recent industry investigation of Chinese manufactured welding/plasma cutting equipment has revealed a disturbing pattern of using SECOND-HAND, RECYCLED MOSFETs. All components used in Ramsond equipment are BRAND NEW. Ramsond products, including Ramsond CT series use only the best and the most premium components. All critical components used in Ramsond equipment are selected by its team of US specialists to ensure the highest quality and durability. For example, MOSFETs used in Ramsond CT series plasma cutters are manufactured by Fuji and Toshiba (Toshiba for CT416D and Fuji for CT518D series).
Cut at 12 Times the Speed of Sound
Plasma cutting is a process that is used to cut steel and other metals using a plasma torch. In this process, an inert gas (compressed air) is blown at high speed out of a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed through that gas from the nozzle to the surface that is being cut, turning some of that gas to plasma. The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the cut. The plasma, which is maintained between the work-piece and electrode, travels at over 9000 MILES PER HOUR (15,000 km/h). That’s over twelve times the speed of sound.
Advantage Plasma vs. Oxy-Fuel Torch
Plasma does not use expensive, hazardous gases, only compressed air. It imparts much less heat into the piece being cut, eliminating warping. It leaves little to no slag to clean up or grind off. The cost per cutting hour can be less than oxy-fuel since there is no gas cost. It is also much quicker and easier. So, you cut better, faster and inexpensively.
Skill and Training (Cutting/Welding)
There is not a lot of skill or training required to operate a Plasma cutter. The torch should remain at a 90-degree angle. With the Ramsond CT416D you can keep a standoff or drag the tip of the torch on the metal. For TIG and MMA function, there are ample resources on the internet for those who are at beginning of the welding learning curve and for those who want to perfect their skills. It is truly a rewarding experience, both for the hobbyist and for those who weld professionally. It is both a skill and and art form combined.
RAMSOND CT416D is user friendly. It has only four control; the On/Off, the CUT/TIG/MMA selector button, the current regulator and torch time selector. You can change the amperage when you want to cut thicker/thinner material. However, many operators will leave the amperage switch on full output for all thickness of metal.
Air Requirements (Included Air Filter/Regulator)
Compressed air is the most popular gas used for plasma cutting. You can use an air compressor or a bottle of compressed air. The CFM (Cubic Foot per Minute) is important because that is the amount of air that will be distributed per minute and will keep your RAMSOND CT 416D running consistently. The PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) is the actual air pressure required to operate your CT 416D (50-75 psi). The other gas used is nitrogen, but the only advantages to using it is for when cutting stainless steel. You will get a cleaner cut but the cut thickness will be diminished a little. With some exotic metals a gas mixture may be needed.
You will also want to have clean and dry air when operating any plasma cutter. Ramsond CT 416D comes already equipped with an air filter/regulator that is designed to keep the air dry and clean. Dry air is important because if there is moisture in the line it will travel with the air and exit the end of the torch. This is not necessarily dangerous but will shorten the life of your consumables because the arc will follow the moisture in all directions and erode the tip prematurely.
Included Argon Regulator/Flow meter
Included with the RAMSOND CT416D is an Argon Regulator & flow meter combination which accommodates highly precise adjustment of gas flow. It is a perfect/often necessary companion for TIG Welding. The use flow meter provides more accurate readings than regulator gauges which substantially reduces gas waste.
