VINTAGE STARRETT 360° ROTATION - CONTACT TEST INDICATOR
This is an older vintage 360° Rotatable-Contact Test Indicator from LS Starrett. It's a vintage model, but it bears the same catalog number as the modern version. I'm including a toolholder that came mated with the piece when I got it.
According to Starret this indicator is ideal for the quick and convenient zeroing out of a workpiece. It is unusually versatile, having an adjustable sleeve that rotates the contact point 360° and a frictionally-held steel contact point that can be used in any position through more than a 180° swing. Put the contact point wherever you want it and the reading plate will always be in direct view. The pointer always goes in the same direction.
The Starrett catalog says this tool can be used with standard dovetail attachments. This tool can also be used on the No. 657A Magnetic Base Holder and also on the No. 252 Height Transfer Gage, and Nos. 57 and 257 Surface Gages.
Range ±.005" (The newest version goes plus or minus .010.)
Contact point length is 3/8", ball diameter is 7/64"
