AISI D-2 high carbon, high chrome cold work tool steel. D-2 is the most wear resistant of the commonly available grades of tool steel. It is deep hardening and has a very low size change during heat treatment. Because of its inherent wear resistance, D-2 has a low machinability rating when compared to other standard alloy tool steel grades. The high chromium content gives it mild corrosion resistance in the hardened condition. Typical applications include blanking dies, broaches, burnishing tools, edging and forming dies, thread rolling dies, and wear plates. Material is being offered in 25 pound bundles of misc. flat and bar sizes.
