This piece has a small bandsaw cut about 1.5" from one end. It's about 1/8" deep, and it looks like the operator didn't fasten the clamp properly because the piece seems to have rotated inside the jaws causing slight surface damage. The 7" diameter is the amount of clear material on the rod - it's actually a little bigger than that.
Nylon GSM is an oil-filled Nylon that has molybdium embedded in it for greater slipperiness. It is usually used for gear applications.
