The package consists of the following:
o Starrett 812-14 Digital Display Amplifier with dual inputs
o Two (2) Starrett 812-1Z lever type Gaging Heads, each with 8-ft cable and connector, in original boxes
o Two (2) Starrett 812-4 Height Gage/Comparator Attachments
o Instruction Manual !!!!!!!
There is an RS-232-C connection on the back for output to a printer or computer (cable not supplied). The baud rate is factory set at 1200, but can be changed by moving a jumper wire and setting dip switches inside the chasis.
The system can be used with a single input by turning one of the rotary switches to the off position. When used with dual inputs, either differential or cumulative measurements can be shown. The instruction manual shows diagrams of the following examples of differential measurements:
o Inspecting the angle of a tapered part
o Gaging the depth of surface Y with reference to surface X
o Measuring the concentricity of one diameter with respect to another
and the follow examples of cumulative measurements:
o Measuring the thickness of a workpiece on which a surface is not flat
o Gaging the wall thickness of tubing
This type of inspection and gaging equipment is a little over my head, so if you have read this far, I suspect you know more about this system than I do. Starrett has moved on to sexier models over the years, but in my 1979 Starrett catalog this package of items sold for over 1500 bucks!
